Musk’s Accusation of “White Genocide” is Denied by the President of South Africa

Cyril Ramaphosa, the president of South Africa, declared on Monday that the idea that white people face persecution in his nation is a “wholly untrue narrative.” It was his most recent effort to refute accusations made by Elon Musk, US President Donald Trump, and certain South African white minority groups.

Elon Musk, who was born in South Africa and has frequently charged that the country’s black-led government is anti-white, reiterated on social media this past weekend that some South African politicians are “actively promoting white genocide. South Africans “should not allow external events to divide us or pit us against each other,” Mr. Ramaphosa stated in his weekly address to the country. It is especially important that we dispel the utterly untrue myth that members of a certain race or culture are persecuted in our nation.

Although Mr. Ramaphosa did not mention specific individuals, his denial alluded to claims made by Mr. Trump and others that South Africa is intentionally mistreating the Afrikaners, a white minority group, by inciting violent attacks on their farms and proposing laws to take their land.

Mr. Trump’s executive order last month, which offered Afrikaners refugee status in the US while cutting off money to South Africa to punish the government, was centred on these accusations.
