Blatter and Platini are Once Again Exonerated of Corruption Charges by the Swiss Court

The Swiss Criminal Court has cleared former FIFA president Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini in a corruption case involving fraud and poor management. A hearing was held following an appeal against their 2022 acquittal.
On Tuesday, Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini won their trial against Swiss federal prosecutors again, expanding their lead to 2-0. In a case that has lasted ten years, former FIFA president Blatter and former UEFA president Platini—once the most powerful men in soccer were acquitted for the second time. They were accused of mismanagement, fraud, forgery, and embezzlement of more than two million US dollars in FIFA funding since 2011.
Blatter, who is 89 years old, showed little emotion when he heard the decision from three cantonal judges acting as a federal criminal appeals court. He sat facing Platini and alternated between covering his mouth with his left hand and drumming his fingers on the desk. Blatter didn’t grin and extend his hand to shake his lawyer’s until the announcement of the 55-minute verdict.
About the relief of having a symbolic sword of Damocles removed from his life, Blatter said, “You saw my daughter in tears because she believed in her father, and I had faith in myself. “My family has been greatly impacted by the toll that prolonged waiting takes on people.
