Kenyan Demonstrate in Nairobi to Put an end to Kidnappings of Government Critics

Kenyan demonstrators demanded a stop to kidnappings of government critics on Monday as they walked to the streets of Nairobi. In an attempt to disperse the throng, police doused protesters with tear gas; opposition politician Senator Okiya Omtatah and several other people were taken into custody.

Relatives of the missing were among the hundreds who had flocked to Nairobi’s streets. I am here so that my child can be released,” stated Serah Njeri, the mother of a blogger who was kidnapped. I would appreciate it if the government could let me know where my child is. Here I am, and I would prefer that you murder me. There are a lot of other individuals here with me; please let our kids go.

Concerns have been raised by the Kenyan National Commission on Human Rights regarding the increasing frequency of alleged kidnappings of government critics. The panel claims that since anti-government protests in June, 82 people have been kidnapped. Rights organizations blame the Kenyan police, although the police have refuted the claims and maintain that they are investigating the disappearances.

The government of (Kenyan) President (William) Ruto ceases kidnapping people,” Okiya Omtatah stated. Because of the government’s activities that target its critics, this regime has gone rogue, and we are here to demand that it return to normal. To demand that the regime either abide by the law or leave office.
