According to a Study, Synthetic Hair Brands Include Harmful Substances

It’s a long-standing custom that goes beyond fashion. Synthetic braids take hours to install in the hair of Black women worldwide. Wearing the hairstyles for weeks at a time shields the hair from weather exposure and breakage.

However, a study conducted by Consumer Reports, a consumer advocacy organisation located in the United States, has discovered that some well-known brands include a variety of hazardous substances. Women are now questioning if the health risks associated with braiding outweigh the protection it provides for their natural hair.

It has long been ingrained in our culture. In my opinion, braids are here to stay. We have been receiving them since we were kids. According to hairstylist Jahzé Wyse, “we’re getting braids at two or three.

Nine of the ten goods that Consumer Reports examined had dangerous amounts of lead, and all ten had substances that cause cancer. According to James Rodgers, head of product safety, conversations with Black women raised the organization’s attention to the safety of hair products.
