Remote Robotic Surgery on a Patient in Africa from the United States

In an FDA-approved clinical experiment, a patient in Angola underwent a remote robotic prostatectomy procedure from Florida.
We will conduct a clinical trial with FDA approval from the United States to Africa. Dr. Vip Patel, a Global Robotics Institute at AdventHealth, stated, “We will be performing a robotic prostatectomy for a man in Angola who would not otherwise have access to high-end surgical care.”
The possibility to give medical treatment internationally from a single site is made possible by the robotic system’s connections to several locations throughout the globe, including Sao Paulo, Kuwait, Morocco, Shanghai, and Angola.
Yes, telesurgery is becoming increasingly popular, and people have operated remotely in the past, but this is the first time it has been done in this manner and at this distance. Dr. Vip Patel stated, “Never from the United States to Africa and never where it’s been approved by a legal agency like the FDA.”
By giving patients in underprivileged areas access to cutting-edge surgical choices that they would not otherwise have, the operation carried out at AdventHealth Global Robotics Institute has the potential to have a substantial influence on global healthcare.
