South Africa is set to Assume G20 Chairmanship on Sunday

On Sunday, South Africa will assume leadership of the G20. This is the first time an African nation has served as the Group of 20’s president.

The group will be led by Johannesburg until the United States assumes leadership of the G20 at the end of 2025.

Despite the harsh reality of trade conflicts and diplomatic tensions, the G20 group is working to address climate change threats and inclusive growth.

In November, the leaders of the 20 largest economies in the world met and issued a number of statements.

Although group members supported the joint statement, there was not unanimous agreement. Along with revisions that would eventually allow the U.N. Security Council to have more than five permanent members, it also advocated for a future worldwide tax on millionaires.
