The Middle East Crisis is the main Topic of Discussion as the MED Dialogues Conference Begins
Opening statements from some of the region’s top leaders kicked off Monday’s MED Dialogues, the annual conference on the Mediterranean organized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ISPI (Italian Institute for International Political Studies), in Rome.
Abdallah Bou Habib, the foreign minister of Lebanon, addressed the Middle East issue in his speech, vehemently denouncing “any attack on UNIFIL” and urging “all sides to respect the safety, the security of the troops and their premises.
The Lebanese government understood that “two necessity conditions are required, an immediate cease-fire and deployment of additional Lebanese troops south of the Litani River,” he said, restating Lebanon’s commitment to peace and security.
Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Foreign Affairs Minister, also mentioned “the current aggressions by Israel and Gaza” and “the unacceptable and condemned continuous Israeli aggression and daily violations of the Lebanese sovereignty” in his remarks about the “bold measures and decisive actions” that are desperately needed in the Middle East.
