Following a Police Gunfight, a US Pastor who had been Kidnapped in South Africa has been Freed

According to police on Wednesday, three of the abductors of an American pastor who was abducted by armed and masked men during a sermon in the Eastern Cape region of South Africa last week were killed in a gunfight with authorities, and the pastor was rescued on Tuesday. Josh Sullivan, a 45-year-old American from Tennessee, has been a member of the Fellowship Baptist church’s Motherwell township branch since 2018 together with his spouse and two kids.
On Thursday night, four guys burst into the Fellowship Baptist church in Motherwell, resulting in the missionary’s sudden kidnapping. They grabbed Sullivan from the pulpit and bundled him out of the building after stealing two smartphones from congregation members. A couple of hours later, his truck was discovered abandoned.
The investigation was taken over by a multi-agency task team that included the Serious Organised Crime Unit and the Anti-Gang Unit. On Tuesday evening, they drove up to the home in KwaMagxaki, Gqeberha, which was approximately 20 minutes away from the Baptist church and where they believed Sullivan was being kept.
Police said that when suspects in a car parked outside the house attempted to flee and started shooting at them, a gunfight broke out. According to authorities, three unnamed suspects were slain.
According to a statement from Lieutenant Colonel Avele Fumba, “the victim was discovered inside the same vehicle from which the suspects had launched their attack.” “He was miraculously unharmed, evaluated by medical professionals right away, and is now in excellent condition.”
