Explore the World of Spices at the Best Restaurant in Africa

Known primarily for its grapes, Franschhoek is a quiet hamlet around one hour east of Cape hamlet. However, interest in Franschhoek’s restaurants has grown recently in the city’s tourism sector.

At the World Culinary Awards in October, Epice, one of them, took home the title of Africa’s greatest restaurant. The restaurant opened its doors in 2019 and got its moniker from the French word for spice. In order to bring distinctive spice blends back to her Epice kitchen, head chef Chane Sampson frequently travels the globe. Four distinct set menus with eight to eleven courses each are available for visitors to select from. Customers are intrigued by Sampson’s varied cuisine and dishes like a spicy breadboard with beef drippings, which has helped the restaurant succeed.

The CEO of Franschhoek Tourism, Ruth McCourt, stated: “We are overjoyed that Epice has been recognized as Africa’s best restaurant. Charne has already earned an award, and Franschhoek is renowned for its dining establishments. We continue to earn Eat Out accolades for restaurants. It has been won countless times by La Petite Colombe. We have a Michelin-starred chef named Jan at La Motte.
