Trump Blasts NATO Members for Not Backing a US War on Iran
US President Donald Trump on Wednesday blasted his country’s allies for their lack of support for the US in its battle in Iran as a critical NATO summit takes place in Turkey. He also reiterated claims on Greenland, calling European disagreement to his position a “big problem” and demanding that Washington terminate commercial links with Spain.
Spain is a lost cause. We no longer want to conduct any trade business with Spain,” he added, raising a nasty controversy that also touches on Madrid’s defence budget. Tensions had been building following an overnight flare-up between US and Iranian forces and Trump said the ceasefire with Iran was “over”, but left the door open for additional negotiations.
Oil prices jumped more than 5 percent to the highest level in weeks and stock markets throughout the world dropped following the comment. Also on Wednesday, the International Monetary Fund again cut its global growth prediction to 3 per cent, warning in particular of the continuing risks from the war.
