President Tinubu Pardons National heroes and Gives Clemency to 175 Nigerians

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pardoned notable historical personalities, like as Herbert Macaulay, Major General Mamman Vatsa, and members of the Ogoni Nine, who were executed in 1995 under military control, and granted clemency to 175 Nigerians.
Following a meeting of the Council of State in Abuja, the decision was made in response to suggestions made by the Presidential Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy. According to Tinubu, the action demonstrates his administration’s dedication to compassion, justice, and national reconciliation.
Inmates serving lengthy terms for non-violent acts are among those pardoned as part of initiatives to reduce prison overcrowding and encourage rehabilitation. 959 Nigerians and foreigners were also honored by the president for their contributions to the country in a variety of disciplines, such as public service, science, and education. Observers have praised the gesture as a symbolic departure from Nigeria’s history of authoritarianism and a step toward restoring human rights.
