Ethiopia: A Turning Point or a Mirage in terms of Electromobility? [Asset Management]
Ethiopia is embarking on a major change towards electromobility with the ambitious target of 440,000 electric vehicles by 2030. In spite of its inadequate infrastructure, Yuma Sasaki’s company Dodai is progressing well in this shift.
“If we wait for the infrastructure to be ready, it will take decades,” he said, defending Ethiopia’s audacity in being the first nation to outlaw the import of vehicles running on petrol and diesel.
The government is strategically boosting the electric vehicle industry by offering financial benefits, such as a zero percent import duty rate, to encourage this transformation. Sasaki also highlights the beneficial economic effects, saying that “you can reduce operating costs by 95% by switching from petrol vehicles to electric vehicles.”
With the money it has received, Dodai intends to improve output, acquire raw materials, and fortify the ecosystem of infrastructure, which includes replacement parts and charging stations. With Manetain Organics, Lienne Shonhiwa has turned her battle with postpartum hair loss into a business endeavour. In a market that is frequently overrun with chemical solutions, she responds to the growing need for afro hair care by providing natural alternatives.
