UNGA 2024: Africa’s Future in the Light of Business Africa
With the theme “Leaving no one behind: Acting together for peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations,” the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 2024 will focus on major concerns facing Africa, including economic inequality and climate change. With more than 60% of the population under 25, conversations centre on empowering women and young people while looking into methods for sustainable urban development. In an era of digital transformation and artificial intelligence, public-private partnerships are highlighted as essential for integrating green technologies and helping African countries to surpass old development methods.
The first batch of petrol was produced at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lagos, Nigeria, on September 15, 2024. By generating 650,000 barrels per day, this $20 billion plant—dubbed the largest single train refinery in the world—aims to lessen the nation’s gasoline shortage. The refinery, which allocates 44% of its output for local use and 56% for export, has the potential to cut Nigeria’s dependency on foreign petroleum imports drastically, stabilise the value of the naira, and lessen inflation, which has recently risen beyond 33%.
