Human Rights Watch: Rwandan rmy and Rebel troops Bombard Civilians in Congo

Human Rights Watch claims that attacks on civilians in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo have been carried out by the Rwandan army and the M23 rebel group.

According to a report made public on Thursday, the rights group, the two organisations have shelled highly populated areas close to Goma, the capital of the North Kivu province of Congo, and refugee camps randomly throughout 2024.

According to Human Rights Watch, there have been five attacks since January 2024 in which refugee camps or population centres were targeted by rocket fire or artillery from Rwanda and M23.

Additionally, the group claims that the Congolese army and its supporters have placed artillery close to camps for displaced people, putting civilians in danger. It demanded more robust precautions to keep citizens safe. More than 500,000 people have fled the violence and are now camped up around Goma.
