Following an Attack on a Significant Fuel Tank in Libya, Fire Breaks Out
Following what police claimed was an attack by unidentified perpetrators, a significant gasoline reservoir in Zawiya, Libya, west of Tripoli, caught fire and collapsed on Monday. The tank held roughly 4.5 million litres of gasoline, according to the National Oil Corporation (NOC).
With a daily capacity of 120,000 barrels, the reservoir is situated at Libya’s second-largest oil refinery.The Brega Oil Company’s tank number 402-T, which is used to store gasoline, was directly targeted this evening, causing a serious fire before the tank totally collapsed, according to a statement from the NOC.
In a statement, Brega claimed that “cooling operations are underway for adjacent tanks to prevent the fire from spreading” and that firemen were attempting to confine the fire. Two drone assaults on a naphtha reservoir and a water desalination facility over the weekend were among the recent incidents in Zawiya that the NOC denounced.
On Facebook, Libya’s emergency services organization stated that there had been “no serious casualties” and that smoke inhalation accounted for the majority of the illnesses they were treating. The NOC proclaimed a state of emergency and demanded an investigation.
