The World Food Forum Begins by Urging the Development of Inclusive Agrifood Systems

The World Food Forum, with the theme ‘Good food for all, for today and tomorrow,’ began Monday in Rome. Qu Dongyu, the head of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) at the United Nations, advocated for agrifood systems to be strengthened in order to improve food and nutrition security. “The future will be directly impacted by the decisions we make today. The FAO Director-General Qu stated that the organization’s theme for this year, “Good Food for All, for Today and Tomorrow,” embodies the organization’s basic goal and highlights the significance of the Four Betters: improved production, improved nutrition, improved environment, and improved life, leaving no one behind.

The forum is also attended by the leaders of Liberia, Lesotho, and Eswatini. In their comments, they pointed out that pandemics, conflict, and climate change were making it difficult for African nations to reach the objective of ending hunger. A portion of Eswatini King Mswati III’s address said, “As we look at developing our food products, this will not be possible without the enabling infrastructure, such as roads, warehouses, and ICT, to mention a few.”

Global academics, young activists, investors, and leaders will talk about what needs to be done over the course of the next three days to create inclusive and sustainable global agrifood systems. According to a 2023 FAO estimate, more than 340 million people in Africa are considered to be extremely food insecure.
