MSF was Compelled to stop Providing Aid in the Famine-Stricken State of North Darfur
The humanitarian organisation Doctors Without Borders, or MSF, is urging all parties involved in Sudan to make it easier for aid to reach the Zamzam camp in the western Darfur region of the country.
According to MSF, it was had to cease providing outpatient care for 5,000 children, 2,900 of whom had severe acute malnutrition. It claims that for months, the Sudanese warring parties have prevented supplies, food, and medications from reaching the camp.
There are rages at the Zamzam camp, which is located outside the North Darfur state capital. The only hospital that is still open to treat children in the camp is MSF’s 80-bed facility.
According to a news statement issued by the nonprofit on Thursday, October 10, while some limited supplies have come in recent weeks, the amounts are still insufficient to fulfil the needs of those who are malnourished. There are about 450,000 people living in the camp.
When the IPC Famine Review Committee declared in August that a famine was in progress, the camp gained more international attention.
