In Burkina Faso, There Are 6.3 Million People In Need Of Humanitarian Aid And Safety

The UN has warned that Burkina Faso is facing a “unprecedented humanitarian crisis” and is without the resources to address it.

On Friday, June 28, the UN chief’s spokeswoman made a plea to member states for financial support.

“Our humanitarian colleagues in Burkina Faso report that the nation is experiencing an unparalleled humanitarian crisis, with 6.3 million people in need of protection and assistance,” he stated.

“The government’s efforts to provide for the urgent needs of the people are being supported by us and our partners. Aid organizations have helped almost 730,000 men, women, and children nationwide so far this year alone through the Humanitarian Response Plan. Although this is a positive beginning, it only accounts for 19% of the 3.8 million individuals that we hope to help. Only 17% of the $935 million Humanitarian Response Plan for 2024 has been financed as of about halfway through the year, or roughly $157 million.

Terrorist organizations with weapons have cut off humanitarian aid in numerous areas throughout the nation. In addition, problems associated with drought plague the Sahel region.
