Conflict Between the RSF and Sudan’s Army over the Keyo oil Facility Near Khartoum

Near the strategically important al-Jili oil refinery, north of Khartoum, the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are engaged in intense combat.
As part of a multifaceted operation to recover ground in the area, the army declared on Wednesday that it had moved closer to the refinery. The battles have reportedly been heated and aggressive. Witnesses reported seeing smoke plumes cover vast swaths of Khartoum, while social media users shared video of armed soldiers seizing control of the town’s entrance.
At the same time, fighting broke out in el-Fasher. Tensions erupted earlier this week when the RSF demanded that the army leave its final bastion in the region within 48 hours. According to a military source, the Sudanese army retaliated with airstrikes against RSF positions after the ultimatum expired.
