After Months of Anarchy and Starvation, Gaza Residents Applaud the rare Organised delivery of Assistance

The organised delivery of flour to Gaza City residents for the first time in months has brought comfort and cautious hope to thousands who have suffered through violence, looting, and starvation during haphazard humanitarian deliveries.

Aid workers wearing yellow vests distributed bags of flour with the United Nations World Food Program emblem to sizable crowds at a distribution station in Gaza City on Wednesday. After months of stalled aid and unsuccessful distribution attempts marred by theft and stampedes, this unusual cargo finally arrived.

After the Israeli military suspended border crossings in March, aid to the beleaguered Palestinian enclave had essentially stopped. The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a U.S.-led organisation, tried to establish collecting locations close to the border, but the approach was widely criticised as unorganised and lethal.

Powerful tribes in Gaza now claim they are intervening to guarantee safe and equitable distribution. Locals believe the new strategy is more effective, but it’s unclear how much cooperation has occurred with Israeli or UN authorities. “Today, we are very happy that we can receive (aid) in an organised way better than the aid distribution that was looted by gangs,” stated Ali al-Tiben, another Gaza resident.
