Displaced Citizens of El-Fasher Describe the Atrocities they Saw in the City

With witnesses describing streets covered with bodies, systematic attacks on people, and a terrifying trip to safety, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have unleashed a wave of brutal violence and a huge exodus following the loss of el-Fasher, the Sudanese military’s final stronghold in Darfur.

Tens of thousands have left the city, with the UN reporting that over 62,000 people left in just four days. Stories of dread were carried by those who made it to the relative safety of displacement hubs such as Tawila .”We witnessed a significant number of fatalities… “You would be shocked if you went to the hospital,” said 70-year-old Fatima Abdulrahim, who spent five days walking with her grandkids.

The World Health Organization claimed that at least 460 people were killed in a hospital attack, where gunmen kidnapped doctors and nurses before shooting staff, patients, and anyone seeking cover. This was the height of the violence. Witnesses told of RSF forces performing sexual assaults and killing civilians while traveling from house to home, leaving several victims with gunshot wounds on the streets.
