According to a WHO Report, Over a Billion Individuals are at Risk from Uncontrolled Hypertension
Uncontrolled hypertension puts almost 1.4 billion people at danger, according to the World Health Organization’s second global study on high blood pressure. However, it stated that slightly more than one in five people had the illness under control, either by taking medicine or by addressing health risks that can be changed.
According to Dr. Alarcos Cieza, head of the organization’s Management of Noncommunicable Diseases unit, hypertension is a global crisis. In reality, this means that over 1 billion people suffer from the illness and are not receiving any treatment. They are therefore susceptible to heart attacks, strokes, kidney problems, and other disorders including dementia,” she warned.
Although high blood pressure may be prevented and treated, millions of people will continue to die too soon, and nations will suffer increasing financial losses if immediate action is not taken. In low- and middle-income nations, access to and availability of necessary medications continue to be problems, and the cost of medications is prohibitive.
It is estimated that cardiovascular disorders, including hypertension, will cost them over $3.7 trillion between 2011 and 2025, or about 2% of their total GDP. Although taking medication on a regular basis is economical and yields a significant return on investment, only 30% of African nations reported having access to all essential medications.
