Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi asks Vladimir Putin for Russian Assistance

On Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed gratitude to Russia for denouncing the U.S. and Israeli attacks against Iran. Russia is “on the right side of history and international law,” according to the Iranian Foreign Minister.
Two days after the United States launched planes to strike Iran’s three primary nuclear installations, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Araghchi in Moscow. During the discussion, Putin informed Araghchi that “the completely unprovoked aggression against Iran has no basis and no justification.
Israel’s and the US’s hostile measures are wholly unjustified and against international law and convention. We are legitimately protecting our nation and sovereignty,” Araghchi stated.
US strikes, according to Vladimir Putin, are pushing “the world to a very dangerous line.” Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Kremlin, stated that Russia supports Iran but did not provide specific backing. Moscow has benefited from the Islamic Republic’s assistance in its conflict with Ukraine, notably the use of Iranian drones.
The Moscow conference coincided with Israel’s announcement that it had carried out many airstrikes against targets of the Iranian regime on Monday, including the infamous Evin prison in Tehran, which houses political prisoners and dissidents in appalling conditions.
