Thailand Rescues 260 People Who were Trafficked from Scam Facilities in Myanmar

Thailand’s military said that 260 people who were rescued from Myanmar and are thought to have been trafficked and forced to work in online scam centres will be sent back to their home countries. This action is a component of a redoubled effort to combat scam centres that operate throughout Southeast Asia.
A boat carrying the rescued people arrived in Tak province, which is on Thailand’s border with Myanmar, on Thursday, according to a Thai army video. According to Thai media sources, the workers’ freedom and transportation to the border were mostly facilitated by the Democratic Karen Benevolent Army, an ethnic militia from Myanmar that controlled the area where they were detained.
Thailand’s neighbours, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos, are well-known for being havens for crime syndicates. It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of people were coerced by these organisations into falling for a variety of online frauds, such as bogus investment possibilities, illicit gambling operations, and phoney romantic schemes.
