Five People, Including Pogba’s Brother, Are on Trial For Allegedly Extorting The French Star

Paul Pogba, the soccer player who won the World Cup two years ago, was the object of an extortion case in which his brother and five other men were put on trial Tuesday. The former Juventus star and Manchester United player has chosen not to attend the proceedings at the Paris criminal court. The trial is scheduled to go for a week.

After investigating whether Pogba was being extorted by his brother Mathias and childhood acquaintances, a court ordered the six men to stand trial. According to the prosecutor’s office, Mathias Pogba is on trial “for the offenses of attempted extortion and criminal conspiracy.

According to reports, defense attorneys Karim Morand-Lahouazi and Yves Leberquier requested on Tuesday that the court summon Pogba for interrogation.

Pogba claimed to have paid the organized gang, which included his brother, 100,000 euros throughout the probe. The 31-year-old footballer also told authorities that the alleged extortionists sought to defame him by saying he hired a witch doctor to cast a hex on France colleague Kylian Mbappé, according to French media sources. Pogba refuted the claim.
