West Africa has Devastating floods Caused by Torrential Rains.

The region’s floods this year have caused over 1,000 fatalities and forced hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes, making Chad, Nigeria, Mali, and Niger the most severely affected countries. According to the U.N., flooding has impacted over four million people in West Africa thus far this year, which is a threefold rise from the previous year.

An accurate tally of lives lost in the sea is impossible to provide while rescue operations are still in progress. At least 230 deaths have been reported in Nigeria thus far, along with 265 in Niger, 487 in Chad, and 55 in Mali, which has seen the worst flooding since the 1960s.

Africa is among the regions most susceptible to catastrophic weather events, even though it contributes very little to global greenhouse gas emissions, according to a report released earlier this month by the World Meteorological Organisation. The analysis anticipated that over the next ten years, the cost of adjusting to catastrophic weather events in sub-Saharan Africa would be between $30 and $50 billion yearly. By 2030, harsh weather might affect up to 118 million Africans, according to the warning.

The capital of Borno state, Maiduguri, has been experiencing severe hardship. Boko Haram terrorists, who aim to establish an Islamic state in Nigeria and have killed over 35,000 people in the past ten years, have been attacking Borno nonstop for the past ten years.
