Washington Summit: Putin Will Not Succeed in Ukraine, Biden Declares Firmly To NATO
Aiming to demonstrate to both domestic and international friends that he is still capable of leading, U.S. President Joe Biden promised on Tuesday at the NATO summit in Washington, D.C., to vigorously protect Ukraine against Russia’s invasion.
The 81-year-old Biden has been subjected to stinging criticism on his suitability for office for the past 12 days as some of his fellow Democrats on Capitol Hill and campaign contributors worry that he won’t win the November 5 election following a lackluster debate performance on June 27.
In his greeting to NATO member states at the summit, US President Joe Biden made reference to Russian President Vladimir Putin and stated, “(Vladimir) Putin wants nothing less, nothing less, than Ukraine’s total subjugation… and to wipe Ukraine off the map.” “Ukraine can and will stop Putin.”
Despite some diplomats at the meeting stating that the damage was tough to undo, the White House hopes that he can end a challenging phase of his presidency with his most prominent policy speech since the debate.
Tuesday, Biden delivered his speech using a teleprompter while maintaining a strong, assured demeanor and generally eschewing the grammatical errors and confused expressions that characterized his debate performance.
