Chinese officials have denied reports that the nation was dealing with a COVID-19-like respiratory disease outbreak. Mao Ning, a spokesperson for the foreign ministry, said during a routine press briefing on Friday that the infections were winter-related flu cases.

According to a press conference transcript posted on the foreign ministry website, Mao responded to a reporter’s inquiry by saying, “Respiratory infections tend to peak during the winter season in the Northern Hemisphere.”

They displayed numerous individuals using face masks and medical personnel in protective gear. The videos were not independently verified. So yet, the World Health Organization has not responded. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), at least 5.3 million flu cases, 63,000 hospital admissions, and 2,700 fatalities including at least 11 children have occurred in the US thus far this season.
