Outside The Israeli Consulate in Istanbul, Three Gunmen Open Fire on Police
According to Turkish sources, three attackers opened fire on police outside the Israeli Consulate building in Istanbul on Tuesday, starting a gunfight that resulted in the death of one terrorist. The two other attackers were injured and taken into custody.
Istanbul Governor Davut Gul told reporters that two police officers were slightly hurt in the altercation. The attackers had firearms with lengthy barrels. Mustafa Cifti, the interior minister, stated on X that the attackers had rented a car and driven from Izmit, which is about 100 kilometres east of Istanbul. He connected one of the attackers to a group that he said was “exploiting religion,” although he did not identify the outfit.
In the past, the Islamic State group has killed people in Turkey. Onur C. and Enes C., the two injured attackers, are brothers. The first has a drug-related criminal history. The Interior Ministry claims that both are being questioned.
One attacker was seen on camera crouching behind a bus while engaging in gunfire with police, carrying what looked to be an assault rifle and a brown backpack. After appearing to have been shot, a police officer collapses to the ground and rolls away to take refuge behind a tree.
