Numerous Fulani Herdsmen are killed by Nigerian and Beninese Militants during a Border Raid
Numerous ethnic Fulani herders were slain in a raid by a state-backed Nigerian militia working with the military, local sources told AFP. The reports claimed that after the herders were suspected of being informants for the terrorist organization Ansaru, they were executed in an operation that also included vigilantes from Benin, which is located directly across the border from Niger state.
According to the sources, in a slaughter that also resulted in widespread mass arrests, Nigerian vigilantes from the Bussa district stormed herding Fulani settlements near Kabe in neighboring Borgu.
According to the reports, security officers went door-to-door in Fulani herding settlements on Thursday, detaining young males they believed to be informants for the Ansaru group, which has ties to al-Qaeda, and murdering those who resisted.Ahmad Ali, a community leader from the adjoining village of Konkoso, stated that during the raids, security personnel killed 41 suspected Ansaru informants and imprisoned numerous others. With the assistance of Nigerian soldiers, community vigilantes and those from neighbouring Benin collaborated on the operation,” Ali continued. A Nigerian military spokesman said he would look for further information about the purported event but declined to comment.
