We recently had the opportunity to interview Angelo Zilio, Founder of ZICG. With over 20 years of experience in a variety of industries in the USA and UAE, Angelo Zilio founded ZICG with a passion for helping SMEs and expertise in building strong relationships and driving business growth.

To help companies quickly position themselves in global markets, ZICG specializes in internalizing SMEs, and creative startups, facilitating export operations, and developing cross-border activities. In this interview, Angelo Zilio discusses how he got into the business, what inspired him to launch his company, the obstacles he encountered in the industry, what products and services he currently offers, and his advice for today’s business leaders.

We started the interview by asking, “Can you share with us your career journey and how it led to your current position, particularly highlighting experience in both the UAE and the USA?”

Angelo responds, “My career journey has been a multifaceted progression shaped by practical experience and academic pursuits. Beginning as an Export Manager, I worked across diverse countries in Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Africa. This role provided hands-on exposure to global markets, fostering an understanding of cross-cultural dynamics and international trade intricacies.

 Promoting to Director Manager, I led international operations with a strategic vision. This role enhanced my management abilities in diverse business environments. Later, I taught Management, Strategy, and Marketing as an Adjunct Professor at universities in France and Germany, imparting knowledge to future business leaders.”

He added, “The entrepreneurial spirit then led me to found an innovative startup, and subsequently, I established ZICG, my international consulting company. ZICG was founded with a dual mission—professionally, to support companies in the internationalization process, and personally, as a passionate endeavor aligned with my values.

 With ties to the USA both professionally and personally, I am further motivated to invest in the U.S. market. ZICG aims to help companies enter this dynamic market while also recognizing the opportunities in the vibrant market of the UAE. My career has been a fusion of academia, management, entrepreneurship, and the creation of ZICG, driven by my dedication to guiding businesses through international expansion.”

We asked around, eager to find out more about the circumstances that gave rise to ZICG, “What inspired the inception of your company, and how does this inspiration resonate with the UAE and USA markets?”

He replied, “The inspiration behind founding ZICG was twofold: a deep professional commitment to supporting companies in their internationalization efforts and a personal mission to create a lasting impact. The intricate process of guiding businesses through global expansion became not just a career choice but a reflection of my belief in the transformative power of international commerce.

 ZICG is committed to aligning with the potential for growth and innovation in the UAE’s dynamic business landscape. With a dedicated business partner on the ground, we see opportunities to contribute significantly to the Middle East’s vibrant economy.

 In the USA, ZICG’s interest goes beyond professional aspirations as it is a familial link. We view the USA as one of the most intriguing and challenging markets globally, making it a focal point for our strategic investments. Angelo shared, “ZICG has continually adjusted its business priorities to adapt to the ever-changing markets of the UAE and USA. Initially providing internationalization support, the company now focuses on capitalizing on emerging opportunities in the UAE and the wider Middle East region. ZICG aims to strengthen its presence and align its services with the cultural and regulatory landscapes of the Middle East.

 In contrast, the USA demands innovative solutions due to its complexity and diversity. Therefore, we have invested heavily in data intelligence, machine learning, and technology adoption to provide cutting-edge insights and customized approaches for navigating the multifaceted U.S. market. Ultimately, we prioritize agility and adaptability, ensuring effective solutions for our clients in both markets.”

While every business has its share of unavoidable obstacles, the most important thing is to overcome them effectively. So, we asked Angelo Zilio, “What are some of the most challenging situations your company has faced in the USA, and what key strategies have you employed to overcome them?”

We further asked, “Which Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) do you primarily utilize to measure business growth, and how do they differ, if at all, between the UAE and USA markets?”

Angelo continued, “ZICG uses various KPIs to assess business growth, tailored to the unique dynamics of the UAE and USA markets. Common indicators include revenue growth, client acquisition rates, and customer satisfaction metrics. In the UAE, regulatory compliance and cultural alignment are additionally prioritized. In the USA, technology adoption KPIs like data analytics effectiveness and innovation impact are of greater significance. This customized approach aligns our KPIs with the specific factors impacting business growth in each market.”

Noteworthy projects include establishing an academy for international business skills and developing a business unit for data intelligence and machine learning. ZICG also supports startups and fosters innovation and entrepreneurship.”

Angelo concluded, “For budding entrepreneurs embarking on the exciting journey of business, my advice would be to embrace a few key principles. Firstly, cultivate resilience – expect challenges, setbacks, and uncertainties, but view them as opportunities to learn and grow. Surround yourself with a diverse and talented team, fostering a collaborative environment that fuels creativity and innovation.

 Secondly, always prioritize a deep understanding of your target market. Successful ventures are built on addressing real needs and solving genuine problems. Conduct thorough market research, stay attuned to industry trends, and listen attentively to your customers.

 Lastly, maintain a relentless focus on continuous learning. The business landscape is dynamic, and being adaptable is essential. Stay curious, seek knowledge, and be open to evolving your strategies based on changing circumstances.
