Kenya: William Ruto Responds To Critics By Saying, “Some Friends” Helped Pay For The Private Jet For The Us Trip.

He continued that this was a discounted rate provided by “some friends,” and it was less expensive than the national airline, which was his original intention.

Ruto dismissed the claims that the trip cost $1.5 million as inflated. Speaking on Thursday, May 30, at a National Prayer Breakfast in Nairobi, he stressed that he would not squander taxpayer dollars despite criticism and inquiries from the general public.

In the course of his three-day official visit to the US, Kenya closed billion-dollar investment deals. Vice President Kamala Harris announced during the visit that a new partnership would be formed to help provide internet access to 80% of Africa by 2030, an increase from the current 40%.

In addition to establishing the nonprofit Partnership for Digital Access in Africa, Harris unveiled a project to enable 100 million Africans and agricultural businesses to access the digital economy.

Ruto revealed that he had originally planned to reserve Kenya Airways for himself and thirty other people when he returned. But when friends discovered he would be flying commercial, they offered a less expensive private jet.

Ruto insisted that he sets an example for cost-cutting and told his detractors to “calm down.” However, there are still concerns regarding whether accepting such offers is appropriate.

On X (formerly Twitter), some Kenyans, like Karani Mutonga and Mwangi Maina, called for openness regarding these friends’ intentions and suggested possible geopolitical repercussions.
