Authorities Claim There was no Foul Play in the South African Ambassador’s Death

Authorities say there are no indications of foul play in the death of Nathi Mthethwa, South Africa’s ambassador to France. The cause is still a mystery. As the investigation progresses, South African officials are collaborating closely with French investigators.

On Tuesday, Mthethwa was found outside the Hyatt Regency in Paris. There were no indications of fighting, although the window of his room on the 22nd floor had been forced open. Suicidal intent was implied in a communication to his wife, but the family has rejected that theory.

To assist with the inquiry, a five-person South African police team was sent to France. On Sunday, President Cyril Ramaphosa will give the eulogy during Mthethwa’s funeral. Prior to becoming ambassador in late 2023, Mthethwa held several government positions in the fields of sports and arts and culture. We still don’t know the precise reason. As the investigation goes on, South African officials and French detectives are collaborating closely.
