If Trump’s Gaza plan is Discussed at the White House, the President of Egypt will Not Go

Egyptian security sources said that if U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to force Palestinians out of Gaza is on the table, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi will not visit the White House for talks.

Trump’s suggestion that the United States should take control of Gaza and make it the “Riviera of the Middle East” has angered a number of Arab countries. He has threatened to stop aid if Egypt and Jordan do not take in Gaza’s approximately 2 million inhabitants.

Trump reportedly extended an invitation to Egypt’s president earlier this month, but the United States stated that no specific date has been set for the visit. Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, the King of Jordan, recently met with Trump and rejected his proposal to force Gazans out of the territory.

A precarious ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is in jeopardy, as Israel has threatened to reopen hostilities if the Palestinian militant group’s hostages are not released within the next several days.
