Ghana’s Parliament Ratifies Formal Application to BRICS

Ghana’s cabinet has given the go-ahead for a formal application to join the BRICS geopolitical and economic bloc, according to the country’s Foreign Minister, who announced the news while in India on a visit with his Indian counterpart.

He went on to say that Ghana has already approached India for support in its application, and he framed the effort as an attempt to broaden the country’s economic and political alliances. The group of developing economies, which was first formed by Brazil, Russia, India, and China, has expanded over the past few years with the intention of bringing together countries that are located in the southern regions of the world.

A number of nations, including Ethiopia, Iran, and Indonesia, have joined throughout the course of the previous few years, with South Africa becoming a member in 2009. Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates are other members.

Ghana’s goals were supported by New Delhi, according to the Indian foreign minister, who also emphasised that the broader BRICS grouping would need to take into consideration Ghana’s membership for it to be considered.
