Freetown Building Collapse Sparks Concerns

After the collapse of a seven-story building on Monday, September 16, which left at least 11 people dead and seven more injured but responding to treatment, the community is still in shock and grieving.

Sukainatu traveled from a nearby town in the aim of learning more about her family.

“They said my stepmother, two of my stepbrothers, two of my sister’s children, and my stepfather’s sister’s child—none of them have been seen; since the incident on Monday, it’s been three days already, and we haven’t even seen their bodies.”

Among other things, community stakeholders are requesting more food, housing, and emotional assistance.

This is how the accident at Shell New Road was handled. Even though it has been days of work, many are still eager to see some of the loved ones they have been missing these past several days. More equipment, according to the National Disaster Management Agency, is required to aid in the quick procedure.

Building collapses in Freetown have occurred multiple times in recent months, so this is not an isolated incidence. Experts claim that most structures are not permitted.
