Félix Tshisekedi’s Family is the Object of a Lawsuit Alleging Plunder

La Libre said Tuesday that nine members of the family of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) President Félix Tshisekedi had been charged in Brussels. The defendants are Belgian nationals who are accused of stealing from mines in the southern regions of Upper Katanga and Lualaba.

Tshisekedi’s sister-in-law, kids, brothers, cousins, and even the nation’s first lady are among the people included in the case. The accusation calls them “accomplices to acts of corruption and other criminal activities.”

Attorneys Bernard and Brieuc Maingain brought the lawsuit before federal prosecutor Ann Fransen on behalf of four former directors of Gécamines, the Congolese state-owned mining business, as well as six Katanga-based NGOs.

The solicitors make it clear that they are accusing more people of stealing than the nine people listed. However, only those with Belgian nationality who are subject to prosecution under our legal system are the subject of this complaint.
