Egypt Declares that it Won’t Give Up Until a Truce in Gaza is Achieved

In an effort to stop more violence and escalation in the Middle East, Danish and Egyptian officials met in Cairo on Monday.

Egypt emphasized that a ceasefire in Gaza was necessary, along with the exchange of Palestinian prisoners for Israeli captives.

Badr Abdelaty, the foreign minister of Egypt, stated that Cairo will keep trying everything within its power to put an end to the conflict.

“Until there is a ceasefire and an end to the aggression against our people in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem, we will not stop and we will not give up.”

Lars Løkke Rasmussen, the foreign minister of Denmark, commended Egypt for its continuous attempts to negotiate and achieve a ceasefire, which is necessary to stop the situation from getting worse.

He has voiced his worry about the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian enclave and plans to visit the Rafah crossing on Tuesday.

A longer-term solution to the situation in the Palestinian territory was also discussed by the two.

“There can be no solution in the region without ending the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories, with a priority on establishing a state,” stated Abdelaty.

“Remaining the viable solution to the problem between Israel and Palestine, and this is important as we seek a solution as quickly as possible,” stated Rasmussen regarding the two-state option.
