Chad Wants Former Prime Minister Masra to Serve a Lengthy Prison Sentence

Succes Masra, the former prime minister of Chad, is accused of causing a fatal violent breakout in the southern region of the nation in May, and the administration has called for a lengthy jail sentence for him. A prosecution requested that Masra be imprisoned for 25 years at Thursday’s sessions. The leader of the Transformers Party is charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, and spreading xenophobic sentiments.
Days after at least 76 people were killed in a round of intercommunal violence in the southern region of Chad in May, Masra was taken into custody. In an audio tape that was played for the court in the capital city of Ndjamena, the prosecution claims that Masra called on one of the sides to pick up guns. Masra disputes the accusations.
After a brief stint as prime minister of Chad in 2024, he resigned to run for president, losing to then-junta leader Mahamat Idris Deby. There are charges against the leader of the Transformers Party for murder, criminal conspiracy, and spreading xenophobic sentiments.
