Aviation Experts Claim That the South Korea Tragedy was Caused by a Poorly Designed Runway
According to several aviation experts, shoddy runway construction was the cause of the fatal Jeju Air crash in South Korea. And David Learmount is one. I’m really surprised that the passengers weren’t killed by whatever occurred to the aircraft that prevented the pilot from lowering the flaps and landing gear. “A solid structure should not be just over the end of the runway, where the passengers were killed, Learmount maintains. After the landing gear failed to engage, a commercial plane in southwest Korea flew off a runway and struck a fence on Sunday.
Learmount contends that although the pilot demonstrated skill, the runway’s subpar design undermined these attempts. In the video of this landing, we saw the plane land beautifully with its wings perfectly level, sliding on its belly, and travelling at high speed because the pilot could not lower the flaps, possibly due to hydraulic failure following a bird strike. Nevertheless, he had to land exceptionally quickly, so the plane crossed the end of the runway. Because of this, aeroplanes will sometimes go beyond the limit.
