At Least Eleven Bodies Were Found in a Well in the Fayhaa Neighborhood of Sudan

Days after the military drove an infamous paramilitary organization out of the region, Sudanese officials said Sunday that multiple dead had been found at the bottom of a well in Khartoum. 11 remains, including those of women and children, were recovered from the deep well in the Fayhaa area on Saturday, according to police.

The search was started after locals informed authorities of a dead body discovered in the well, according to Col. Abdul-Rahanan Mohamed Hassan, who is in charge of the civil defense team in Khartoum. Hassan stated that the search for other remains was still in progress. “We discovered various bodies inside this well, including males, females, adults, and children,” he said.

Authorities suspect the victims were slain by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and subsequently disposed of in the well while the paramilitary group dominated the area. Earlier this month, the military reclaimed control of the region as part of a larger offensive in Khartoum and Omdurman. However, the RSF has not responded as of yet. According to Afraa al-Hajj Omar, who lives in the neighbouring Hajj Youssef neighbourhood, the RSF slaughtered a lot of people in the region and left their bodies on the streets for days.
