As U.S.-South Korea Drills Start, North Korea Launches Rockets

On Monday, just hours after the U.S. and South Korea started their yearly military exercises, North Korea defiantly fired a number of ballistic missiles into the sea. This year, North Korea has launched five missiles.
The Hwanghae province fired the missiles, and South Korea closely coordinated with the United States and increased its surveillance. North Korea views the prior U.S.-South Korea Freedom Shield exercise as a prelude to an invasion.
These exercises may lead to “physical conflict” on the Korean Peninsula, North Korea has warned. Meanwhile, 30 people were injured last week when fighter jets unintentionally dropped bombs on a civilian area; South Korea is looking into the event. Live-fire training has been halted by both U.S. and South Korean military until the probe is finished. On Monday, March 10, 2025, U.S. Army armored vehicles get ready to cross the Hantan River at a training ground in Yeoncheon, South Korea, close to the North Korean border.
