A British Soldier was Detained in Kenya on Suspicion of Rape

The Ministry of Defence said on Sunday that U.K. military police are looking into the arrest of a British military personnel in Kenya. A British Army soldier has been charged with rape, according to the BBC and other British media.
The defence ministry stated, “We can confirm that a service member was arrested in Kenya.” “We will not comment further as the Defence Serious Crime Command is currently investigating the matter. The British Army, which has exclusive authority and does not work with the Kenyan police, is still conducting investigations.
Thanks to a defence cooperation deal between the United Kingdom and the East African nation, hundreds of British soldiers train in Kenya every year. The United Kingdom maintains a permanent presence there with about 200 troops to train Kenyan soldiers.
The conduct of the soldiers and the environment around their training camp close to the town of Nanyuki have long been the subject of complaints from certain Kenyans. The murder of 21-year-old Agnes Wanjiru in 2012, who was last seen alive leaving a pub with British troops close to their training camp, sparked outrage. Later, her body was discovered in a septic tank.
