Bolsonaro, Brazil’s Lost Presidential Contender, is Nowhere to be Found

Following news that Brazil’s failed presidential candidate, Flavio Bolsonaro, had left the country, it was unclear where he was on Wednesday. Bolsonaro has refused to accept defeat despite losing Sunday’s runoff election to President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva.

CNN and the Washington Port were among the media outlets that announced his arrival in the United States. The US State Department acknowledged that Bolsonaro and his family would receive visas, but it did not confirm Bolsonaro’s travel arrangements.

However, Argentine authorities claimed that Bolsonaro had arrived late on Tuesday and was on his way to Ecuador. Despite a court ruling prohibiting his departure from Brazil, the 45-year-old entered Argentina “with valid travel documents and no legal impediment,” according to the National Directorate of Migration on X.

According to the official agency, Bolsonaro boarded “a private flight operated by the company Baires Fly S.A. bound for the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador,” together with his wife and two daughters. The airplane departed from the northeastern Argentine town of Puerto Iguazu on Wednesday shortly after midnight (0300 GMT), according to information from the Flightradar24 website.
