There Have Been Dozens of Children Injured as a Result of the Renewed Violence in Tigray, Ethiopia

Since the beginning of conflict between Ethiopian federal forces and Tigrayan rebels on September 23, dozens of civilians have been killed or injured in the Tigray region. The youngsters have not been spared from the violence.

Following intense shelling in the northern area of Ethiopia, children underwent treatment for leg wounds and limb loss on Tuesday in a hospital located in the Tigrayan region. Eight people, including a toddler, were murdered when a drone attack was carried out on a camp for displaced persons in western Tigray on Sunday, according to a witness and an aid worker who spoke to AFP. A minimum of six additional people sustained significant injuries.

According to a medical source, shelling that occurred between September 26 and September 28 in the cities of Maychew and Alamata resulted in the critical injuries of at least 44 civilians, including 33 children. As a result of the explosion, some people have lost their vision, while others have had their legs and hands amputated,” the health worker said to AFP the previous week.

This past weekend, federal forces were able to occupy Mekelle, the capital of Tigray, after the leaders and troops of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front withdrew from the city. This has resulted in the federal forces pushing back the rebel advance.
