G20: Russia Criticises The United States and Warns of Trade order Fragmentation
Russia’s Minister for Economic Development has attacked the United States’ policies, claiming that they hinder global trade. Maxim Reshetnikov, speaking at a two-day session of G20 officials, urged the White House to help maintain the international trade order, saying that it was on the verge of collapse.
Trade ministers met in Milwaukee, US, amid concerns about President Donald Trump’s tariffs. In an effort to defend their economy, the regulations are being undermined, possibly in order to develop new ones. However, the new guidelines are now unclear,” stated Reshetnikov.
For the time being, it’s more a matter of dismantling all international frameworks that hinder the conclusion of deals, shifting toward a logic of bilateral relations, and exercising the right of the strong,” he stated. Reshetnikov added that Russia understood “better than anyone what this is all about, because they are trying in every way possible to restrict our trade”.
He disregarded Washington’s agenda items, which included ending forced labour, refraining from weaponising food commerce, and addressing industrial overcapacity, saying there were more serious concerns to consider.
