Putin Says Russia is Prepared to Support peace Initiatives in the Middle East
During a meeting in Saint Petersburg on Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin told Iran’s top ambassador that Moscow would do everything it could to help keep the Middle East peaceful. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused Washington for the failure of discussions to stop the conflict, despite the ongoing ceasefire.For our part, we will do all in our power to serve your interests, as well as the interests of all the people in the region, in order to achieve peace as quickly as possible,” Russian official media quoted Putin as saying to Araghchi.
According to TASS news agency, Putin praised Iran’s people for fighting for their independence and sovereignty with courage and heroic spirit.”Russia, like Iran, intends to maintain our strategic relationship,” the Kremlin leader stressed.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated to a Russian state TV reporter on Monday that the US had “achieved none of their goals” in its war against Iran.That is why they want to negotiate,” Iran’s senior diplomat stated. “We are now considering it.”
Araghchi was in St. Petersburg on Monday, meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and other high-ranking officials. When asked about Russia’s backing, the minister simply stated that “Iran and Russia are strategic partners,” and that the two countries “have always supported” each other.
