At Least 108 People have Died as a Result of Severe Flooding in Kenya

At least 108 people have died as a result of weeks of intense flooding and torrential rainfall in Kenya. The National Police Service of the nation announced the revised dead toll on Saturday. This East African country has seen extensive devastation as a result of flash floods that started on the evening of March 6. Numerous vehicles have been swept away, aviation travel has been disrupted, and vital electrical infrastructure has been damaged.

Over 2,700 families have reportedly been displaced nationwide, according to authorities. Police are cautioning that the threat is far from over because drainage systems are still blocked and the soil is already saturated, making many communities extremely vulnerable to additional flooding even though rainfall has decreased in some parts.

The floods have caused disruptions to everyday life across the nation, including the closure of schools, the impassability of highways, and the interruption of business operations, especially in low-lying and informal settlements.

Every year, periodic flooding occurs in Kenya, but the scope and severity of the present crisis have rekindled worries about readiness for disasters and the vulnerability of people near rivers and flood-prone areas.
