Iran Blasts Ukraine for Caspian Sea Attacks
Iran on Monday hit back at Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy after he said Kyiv had attacked vessels related to Iran in the Caspian Sea. The strike killed a sailor, Tehran said. One among them to attack Zelenskyy was Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman.
The behavior of the Ukrainian president is reminiscent of the anarchists who, on the eve of the First World War, committed theatrical but very dangerous acts, the consequences of which eventually engulfed all of Europe,” said Esmail Baghaei, spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry.”There is, however, no certainty that a dramatic gesture to attract attention and to assert one’s position in the international arena, where that position is not particularly strong, will be of limited scope. “The consequences could be unpredictable, for Ukraine and for the whole region involved in the conflict,” he insisted.
The critical oil shipping path, the Strait of Hormuz, remains closed despite a respite in attacks between the U.S. and Iran, the spokeswoman said. “I emphasize that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz has not altered at all. “It remains closed because of U.S. acts of aggression and the absence of security imposed by America on the region,” Baghei stated.
