Bola Tinubu’s State Visit to the UK: Big Steel Agreement Reached with British PM

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu made his first state visit to London in almost forty years, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer greeted him at 10 Downing Street. During his first official visit to the UK, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu landed in London on Wednesday. King Charles III had a meal at Windsor Castle on his first day.

The British king greeted the 160 guests at the banquet in Yoruba, and as it was held during the month of Ramadan, the celebrations were modified to accommodate Muslim guests’ religious needs.

Tinubu and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer met at 10 Downing Street on Thursday. Notably, the two leaders struck a record-breaking steel pact and talked about trade. In accordance with the agreement, British Steel would provide 120,000 tons of steel to renovate two significant ports in Lagos, the capital of Nigeria.

According to reports, Starmer and Tinubu also talked about other subjects like climate change and terrorism. Tinubu has made less formal visits to Britain several times in his tenure, and the two countries remain major partners in trade, aid and defence.
